Things to do in Slough, Berkshire
Slough, Berkshire is not a place all visitors or tourists put on their list. However, since visiting places outside of London and staycations are both becoming more popular, exploring the Royal County of Berkshire is one of the things you should do.
Slough is a large town located only 20 miles from central London. One of the great things about Slough is that it is easy to reach by both road and public transport. Places to stay in Slough range from budget hotels to more exclusive stopovers.
This ancient Berkshire town offers a fantastic range of things to see and do any time of the year. Slough has something for all visitors. It does not matter if you would like to enjoy the great outdoors or visit a local inside attraction.
Slough’s Grand Union Canal
One of the things that you must do when you visit this historic Berkshire town is to take a walk along the Grand Union Canal. The canal is very much part of the history of Slough. It has recently been restored and is now a great place to come any time of the year. Why not feed the ducks, enjoy a drink in a canal side pub, or go for a walk?
Slough’s Ice Arena
You will never be bored on a visit to this part of Berkshire. The Ice Arena is where some of Britain’s top ice skaters train. However, there is no reason why you can’t test your ice-skating skills. Check opening times, but the arena is in general open every day of the week.
Salt Hill Activity Centre
Salt Hill Activity Centre is another great place to visit for the entire family. It is located in the centre of Slough. As it is so easy to access for both locals and visitors to Slough, it can get very busy. In particular, it is popular with families from west London. Activities include ten pin bowling and a soft play zone for younger family members. The soft play centre is one of the largest playcentres for little ones in Berkshire.
The Salt Hill Activity Centre is one of the few places you can try your hand at indoor caving. It is perhaps one of the more unusual family activities on offer in this part of Berkshire. You get a chance to explore tunnels and walkways, which will make you feel like you are in an entirely different world. If going caving is not for you and your family, you can check out the high ropes and the trampoline park.
Plane Spotting in Slough
Concorde may not fly over Slough any longer, but Slough is a great place to come if you would like to do some plane spotting. Staying in the town centre is cheaper than to stay at Heathrow airport. Depending on traffic, it will not take you long to reach Heathrow airport. In under an hour, you can have set up your cameras and be ready to enjoy the sights and sounds of one of the busiest airports in the world.
Even though it is not located in Slough, we must mention Windsor Castle. The castle and Windsor Great Park are located only 3 miles away from the centre of the town. A walk in Windsor Park makes an enjoyable morning before you pop back into Windsor to enjoy lunch in one of its many cafes or cosy restaurants.
